The Office of Staff Development for John Dempsey
Hospital is responsible for:
Orientation and Training of New Staff to John Dempsey Hospital
Regulatory Education and Training
Compliance Education and Training
Coordination of Post-Secondary School Affiliation
Performance Consulting Upon Request
The Office of Staff Development is responsible for the orientation
of all staff employed at John Dempsey Hospital. Upon hire, new
employees will complete a health center orientation in which they will learn about the
history and strategic plan of the University of Connecticut Health Center. Upon
completion of the Health Center Orientation, employees who are employed by John Dempsey
Hospital will continue to expand their knowledge by learning about the John Dempsey
Hospital, a JCAHO accredited hospital, built in 1974. As an acute care hospital, in
an academic health center, it is essential that the new employee learn about the services
provided within the facility as well as understand the regulatory constraint present at a
state and federal level. All necessary regulatory education will be completed
during the employee's hospital orientation.
Depending on the employee's role, they may continue to
spend time in the Office of Staff Development to complete a
training program. Staff who are in unlicensed positions, both clinical and clerical,
will have the opportunity to complete an on-the-job training program. (see
Unlicensed Curriculum section under Training Programs
on Orientation Schedule.)
As an academic health center, part of our mission is to provide for the
education needs of allied health students in the state of Connecticut. The Office of
Staff Development coordinates and orients all incoming post
secondary professional students.
